PROJECT OVERVIEW

Our goals are to...

  1. Make it easier and safer to walk and bike in Amador County.
  2. Develop a countywide plan for walking and biking improvements by prioritizing projects from previous planning efforts.
  3. Develop implementation and funding strategies for pedestrian and bicycle improvements.
In 2006, Amador County adopted its third Pedestrian and Bicycle Plan which called for $16 million worth of high-priority projects and $95 million more in additional projects to meet accessibility needs and improve walking and biking conditions in Amador County. This plan was extremely comprehensive and extensive in its community outreach efforts, overseen by a committee of over 20 people.

However 10 years later, the plan has been limited in its implementation. While Amador County began to set-aside funds dedicated solely for Pedestrian and Bicycle projects and improvements, the economic recession of 2008 dramatically impacted the county and cities' capacity to implement bicycle and pedestrian improvements.

Now in 2016, we would like to re-visit the 2006 plan and develop a new plan with a focus on project prioritization as well as implementation and funding strategies.

This process will involve assessing the current conditions of pedestrian and bicycle facilities in the county, analyzing needs for pedestrian and bicycle improvements, as well as identifying financially feasible projects according to available grants and other funding source criteria.
